Familia Asperspinidae

Rankin, 1979

Shell absent; calcareous spicules usually present in the skin. Head bearing antero-lateral oral tentacles, and a pair of antero-dorsal smooth rhinophoral tentacles. Posteriorly the metapodium is free from the visceral mass, but elsewhere the remainder of the foot blends with the head and the dorsal body. The posterior lobe of the digestive gland is not reflexed at its posterior extremity. The anal opening is on the right side, as is the genital opening and the external seminal groove. The penis bears a minute chitinous point or spine.
