Familia Microhedylidae

Hertling, 1930

Shell absent; calcareous spicules present in the skin. Head bearing somewhat flattened oral tentacles which are slightly larger than the digitiform rhinophores (the latter are rarely absent); eyes situated some way posterior to the rhinophores. The mesopodium and metapodium are united with the dorsal visceral mass to a considerable extent. The posterior lobe of the digestive gland may be reflexed at its posterior extremity. The anal opening is on the right side, but some confusion exists as to the positioning of the external genital apertures; the penis may be lacking.
