Genus Calliopaea

d'Orbigny, 1837

Robust, opaque stiligerids with a ratio of foot-width to body-length in life 1: 2-4. The rhinophores form elongate, occasionally longitudinally grooved, digitiform, antero-lateral tentacles. The cerata, which contain tributaries of the digestive gland, and often branches of the albumen gland, are stout and swollen. The foot bears short pointed propodial tentacles.
Worn radula teeth do not always drop from the radula ribbon into the ascus sac, but often form a continuous spiral series. The anus is median, antero-dorsal. A minute spine is present on the penis.
