Body short, truncated anteriorly and posteriorly and with or without a dorsal keel: it may be quite large, up to l00 mm long. Mantle integument with a strong cuticle and spicules comprising mainly long, slender and grooved ones together with solid, needle-like spines. Epithelial papillae present. Mouth opens into the atrium but there is no radula. A dorso-terminal sense organ is present and the mantle cavity has secondary respiratory folds. Hermaphrodite with copulatory armature consisting of a pair of stylets and an associated gland.
