Shell subtriangular or oval in outline, smooth, tumid; equivalve, inequilateral, with umbones well to posterior of midline. Hinge line with taxodont teeth in two distinct series, anterior more numerous than posterior. Ligament internal, in an elliptical chondrophore, below and just in front of beaks. Adductor muscle
scars about equal; pallial line faint, without a sinus.
