Description (shell):
Shell cylindrical, solid, glossy and opaque.
Size:
Up to 13 x 4.5 mm.
Colour:
Whitish with areas of brown.
Animal:
Body white to pale buff. The only visible portions are the cephalic shield, indented anteriorly, and smooth, short, rounded tentacles posteriorly. Foot a little larger than head, with very small parapodial lobes between head and shell (C. cylindracea-drawing).
Habitat:
Burrower in fine sand, found in the top 30 mm. Rarely on the lower shore; sublittoral, to 1500 m.
Distribution:
Common in the North Sea (Distr. C. cylindracea).
