Description:
This distinctive species may reach 14 mm in length, the greyish body bearing sparse tiny superficial dark crimson spots of irregular shape. The cerata (6 pairs) bear 4-5 concentric circles of rounded tubercles, each usually containing a small crimson or black spot. Each rhinophore sheath is slightly flared, with a scalloped rim; each sheath bears conspicuous crimson speckling, replaced by white pigment on the rim.
The most reliable diagnostic feature is the slender shape, with the scattered dark crimson pigment on the cerata (D. millbayana-detail).
Habitat:
It feeds upon the hydroids Plumularia setacea and Nemertesia ramosa .
Distribution:
The only record from outside the British Isles is from northern Spain (Distr. D. millbayana).
