Body protected by a more or less ample spiculose dorsal mantle, sometimes having club-like dorso-lateral processes, but never containing cnidosacs or tributaries of the digestive gland; rhinophoral tentacles contractile but rarely retractile into elaborate basal sheaths; anus postero-dorsal, usually surrounded by a circlet of gill plumes.
