Familia Aeolidiidae

d'Orbigny, 1834

Slow-moving, aggressive aeolidaceans, having a cleioproctic anal position (behind the foremost ceratal rows derived on the right side from the left digestive gland) approximately half-way back along the right side of the body. All the cerata arise in regular rows from subdivisions of the digestive gland. Propodial and long, agile oral tentacles are present; in North Sea species the rhinophores are smooth, lacking either bulbs or lamellae. The penis is unarmed. Two receptacula are present.
Smooth-edged jaws are present. The teeth of the uniseriate radula are broad and pectinate, with or without a median emargination.
