Genus Aequipecten

Shell relatively thin, not translucent, wider than long. Inequivalve, left valve more convex or nearly as convex as right valve. Valves gape at anterior and posterior flanks. Internal ribs present, bordered by keeled ridges. Anterior auricle larger than posterior one, posterior margin anterior auricle forming an oblique angle with dorsal margin. Microsculpture consists of squamate riblets with fine grooves in between; sometimes squamate riblets coaslesced, thus forming concentric lamellate ridges over the whole disk. Byssal notch broad, as well as ctenolium. Resilium triangular and well developed.
