Genus Dentalium

Linné, 1758

Shell small to medium-sized, circular or polygonal in section and weakly ribbed. Longitudinal riblets are frequently lacking in adult stages but present on the apical portion of the shell in juvenile stages. Apical orifice generally with a V-shaped notch on or near the concave side and generally bearing a solid plug with a central pipe or orifice, rarely simple.
