Shell a tumid or turreted spire, or globular with last whorl prominent and spire much reduced; usually small, thin and smooth, often with an umbilical chink or groove on the columella. Foot with two prominent metapodial tentacles; operculum a rapidly expanding spiral of two or three turns, thin and horny.
