Shell solid, with or without a moderately high spire, often pigmented. Sculpture of growth lines, with or without spiral striae; never costate. Foot shield-shaped, with truncated, double edged anterior; without epi- or metapodial tentacles. Operculum a spiral of two to three rapidly expanding turns.
