Description (shell):
Shell like that of Emarginula fissura but smaller, thinner and glossier and with more prominently recurved beak, which lies over or nearly over the posterior edge and below the highest point of the shell. There are 35-40 radiating ridges and about 20 parallel to the apertural edge. The open slit reaches about 1/5 of the distance to the apex.
Size:
Up to 6 x 4 x 4 mm.
Colour:
Often pinkish.
Animal:
24-28 epipodial tentacles.
Habitat:
Sublittorally, lives in the same kind of habitats as Emarginula fissura , at depths down to 30 m or in the interstitial spaces of gravel bottoms, sometimes in LWST.
Distribution:
Off northern France, the Channel Isles, Scilly Isles and south-west England (Distr. E. rosea).
