Nuculana pernula

Description:
Shell slender with an elongate outline, strongly drawn out posteriorly into a long spout. Anterior margin is rounded. Inequilateral, umbones in front of midline. Sculpture of fine concentric lines. Hinge line with 18 teeth anteriorly and 24 posteriorly (N. pernula).

Size:
Up to 23 mm long.

Colour:
Dull white. Periostracum greenish-yellow, slightly glossy.

Animal:
Animal with two short, fused siphons.

Habitat:
In depths between 9 and 900 metres in silty bottoms.

Distribution:
North Sea, western Baltic, from the arctic to Biscay and Atlantic coast of North America (Distr. N. pernula).
