Description:
Similar to Sepiola atlantica . Distinguished immediately by the ventral surface of the mantle, which bears a deep U-shaped cleft in its anterior edge. Maximum mantle length is only 13 mm. All arms with just two rows of suckers. Right dorsal arm of male is equipped with an additional copulatory apparatus comprised of two small tongue-like outgrowths in basal part of arm.
Club suckers are small, equal in size in both dorsal and ventral rows.
Habitat:
Outer shelf and upper bathyal.
Distribution:
From southern Norway to the Mediterranean Sea. A northern species reported infrequently from Scottish coasts (Distr. S. aurantiaca).
