A moderately prominent rounded elevation on the shell surface usually where costae and spiral ridges cross in shell bearing gastropods. In bivalves tubercles are formed through the crossing of radiating ribs and concentric lines. Chitons may have a sculpture of tubercles on their valves. In nudibranchs tubercles are projections on the epidermis of the dorsal surface.
