Genus Pecten

Shell solid, not translucent, wider than long. Inaequivalve umbonal region of left valve convex, later concave, right valve convex. Valves gaping at anterior and posterior flanks. Internal ribs present, bordered by keeled ridges. Anterior auricle slightly larger than posterior one. Microsculpture consists of fine riblets on the ribs and obscure riblets in between the ribs, crossed by concentric implanted lamellae. Byssal notch absent in adults, ctenolium narrow. Resilium triangular and well developed.
